China has reached a historic milestone at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, securing a total of 40 gold medals, 27 silver medals, and 24 bronze medals. This outstanding performance marks the best result by the Chinese delegation in overseas competitions, a source of immense pride and honour for the nation.
In appreciation of the support received from across the country, the Olympic athletes visited Hong Kong from August 29 to 31, 2024. During this visit, they engaged with the citizens of Hong Kong to share their joy and celebrate their achievements. An exchange meeting was specifically organised for primary and secondary school students, facilitated by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the General Administration of Sport of China, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, and the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.

Our school was privileged to participate in this significant event, with our principal, Dr. Cheung Pui Shan, leading a delegation of 16 students to meet the Olympic athletes.

During the exchange session, Huang Zhuowen, a student from Secondary 4, posed a question to gold medal-winning shooting athlete Sheng Lihao that resonated with many: “How do athletes withstand the pressure of competition and national expectations to consistently perform at their best during the Olympic Games?” Sheng candidly replied that there are no secrets; the key lies in focusing and giving one's best effort. His sincere response highlighted the importance of perseverance in the face of pressure.

The event also included interactive segments, where Lo Sing Leong, a student from Secondary 2, showcased his enthusiasm by joining students from other schools in games with the Olympic athletes, contributing to a joyful atmosphere.

As the exchange meeting concluded, the athletes graciously passed by the students. Among them was the petite athlete, Chinese female diver Quan Hongchan, who cheerfully bid farewell to the students, prompting enthusiastic cheers from the audience. All participating students expressed great excitement and acknowledged the rarity of such an opportunity.

We look forward to our students embracing the Olympic athletes as role models, inspiring them to maintain persistent effort and composure in the face of adversity. Just as these athletes strive on the Olympic stage, we too should proactively confront challenges and diligently work towards our personal aspirations, social progress, and the prosperity of our nation.
