Stalked barnacle

The stalked barnacle is a common species found on the littoral zone (middle shore) of local rocky shore.

This common barnacle species in Hong Kong is Pollicepes mitella.

On the rocky shore, the barnacle and stalked barnacle compete for space - the site of attachment. This is an example of inter-specific competition.

The body of the stalked barnacle lies in the crevice while the calcareous plates protrude outside. Firmly attached, it can live in  exposed shore.
